Troffers

LED troffers are recessed fixtures for suspended ceiling grids with a deeper housing than a flat panel. They are a direct, like-for-like replacement for fluorescent troffers in offices, schools, healthcare spaces, retail back rooms and break rooms.

The troffers listed here are Averlite 2x2 and 2x4 models. Edge LED can help you decide between troffers, panels and tube retrofits for your ceiling.

Troffers vs. flat panels

Both fit the same grid openings. A troffer's deeper body and shaped lens look closer to a traditional fixture and can soften the light in rooms where people look up often, such as classrooms or exam rooms. A flat panel gives a sleeker, more uniform ceiling. When only part of a floor is being upgraded, troffers can blend in better beside existing fixtures.

Replace the fixture or retrofit it?

There are three common paths for an old fluorescent troffer: replace it with a new LED troffer, swap in a flat panel, or keep the housing and install LED tubes or a retrofit kit. New fixtures make sense when lenses are yellowed, housings are damaged or ballasts fail often. Tubes cost less up front but keep the old housing. A lighting assessment compares these options for your rooms.
