Outdoor Security Camera Installation for Commercial Properties

Mount and cable exterior cameras for doors, parking areas, loading docks and building perimeters, planned around Indiana weather, nighttime lighting and safe access.

Exterior cameras face conditions interior cameras never do

Outside, a camera has to deal with rain, snow, heat, wind and a scene that changes completely between noon and midnight. Headlights, low sun and bright wall packs can wash out an image, while dark corners can leave a parking area hard to see. We plan placement with those conditions in mind.

Because Edge also works on parking lot and building exterior lighting, we can talk about whether existing exterior lighting supports what a camera needs to see, without assuming a lighting change is required.

01 / Project considerations

Doors, perimeters and building exteriors

Entry doors, service doors and building corners are common exterior camera locations. Mounting height affects both the view and how easily a camera can be reached or tampered with. Building materials, brick, block, metal panel, EIFS, shape the mounting method and how cable enters the building.

  • Entry and service doors
  • Building corners and perimeters
  • Mounting method for the wall material
  • Sealed cable entry into the building

02 / Project considerations

Parking areas and loading docks

Parking lots are wide and often need cameras placed on the building or existing structures, with views planned around vehicles and distance. Loading docks involve trailers, overhead doors and truck traffic that can block a view at different times of day.

  • Vehicle entrances and drive lanes
  • Dock doors, trailer positions and staging
  • Distance and field-of-view trade-offs
  • Views that change with traffic and parked trailers

03 / Project considerations

Weather, lighting, glare and access

Exterior equipment and connections need appropriate weather protection, and cable should be routed and secured so it is not exposed to damage. We look at nighttime lighting, glare from fixtures or headlights, and seasonal sun angles. Work at height is planned with suitable lifts or ladders and coordinated around traffic and operations.

  • Weather-rated equipment and protected connections
  • Glare from wall packs, headlights and sun
  • Nighttime lighting levels in the view
  • Lift access and traffic coordination

Questions before you begin

Will outdoor cameras work at night?

That depends on the camera, the scene and the available lighting. We review existing exterior lighting and glare during planning and describe expected views rather than guarantee them.

Can cameras be mounted on brick or metal buildings?

Typically yes, with a mounting method suited to the material. Cable entry points are planned and sealed to protect the building.

Can you also improve parking lot lighting?

Yes, exterior and parking lot lighting are separate Edge services. We can discuss them together if lighting affects what your cameras need to see.

Do you cover parking lots far from the building?

Distant areas may need different mounting locations or cabling approaches. We review what is practical for your site before defining the scope.
